Writing Update: Six Months of #OneStoryAMonthSTT

It’s been six months of #OneStoryAMonthSTT so it’s time for some reflection. If you don’t know what #OneStoryAMonthSTT is you don’t follow me on Instagram or TikTok and that’s okay. Here are the details:

#OneStoryAMonthSTT. Sketch-like images of a laptop, notebook, and camera. Text that follows: Work on (at least) one story, one chapter, one project, etc during the month. Follow the hashtag and share updates. Chat on Google Meet at the end of the month. All Creatives Welcome!

I started it as a writing challenge for me, but I opened it up to all creatives. The goal for me is not to complete a draft for the entire collection, but to write or edit at least one story a month. So far I have completed three stories. I know I should be up to six, but I’m just pushing myself to keep going. I’ve been titling the stories after months so I have ideas for my April, May, and June stories.

I’m so proud of myself for writing consistently for six months. I haven’t been writing everyday, but I make sure I think about it everyday. I pull up my current story and add to it if I have time. If I’m stuck, I’ll read over the notes I left from the last session and decide if I need to rework my outline or create a more detailed outline. If I’m not feeling it that day, I don’t write. I don’t force myself to because while I’m still figuring out exactly what works, I know for sure forcing myself to write does NOT work.

Writing has been fun for the first time in a long time. I’m not thinking about the publishing process (my favorite way to procrastinate: worrying about publishing a book that’s not even finished) or wondering if I’m good enough. I am good enough. And these drafts don’t have to be good because they’re drafts. They will be rewritten. Revision is key. I’ve come to accept that there is as much magic in the revision process as there is in the writing process.

And you are more than welcome to join me on this journey with your own projects, writing or otherwise. Feel free to use the hashtag. I’ll be doing monthly updates on Instagram and TikTok. You can also find me on Substack. I haven’t really done a Google Meet or live in a while, but I’m open to doing those.

As always, happy writing!
